Native from Portugal (Fuseta, Algarve), Ricardo Aleixo finished his guitar middle level studies in Lisbon and, subsequently, obtained the Superior Guitar Professor Degree at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona after his instrumental training in Alicante with José Tomás, Antonio Ballesteros and Ignacio Rodes. He studied at the Escola d'Arts Musicals Luthier in Barcelona under the direction of Arnaldur Arnarson and he participated in various master classes with masters as Alberto Ponce, Eliot Fisk, Robert Brightmore, David Russell, José Tomás, Ivan Rijos, Ignacio Rodes, Roberto Aussel, Marco Socías or Carles Trepat. He has been awarded in several competitions, among which the Youth Musicians Competition in Lisbon and the Portuguese Youth Musical Competition (medium level). Aleixo performed at several Portuguese, Spanish and Italy locations, as at the Ateneo de Madrid, at the Teatro Principal de Zamora, at the Royal Academy of Art of Spain in Rome, at the Guitar Festival of Gumiel de Izán (Burgos) or at the Espacio para la Cultura de Caja Madrid of Barcelona. In parallel to his career as a guitar teacher and performer, Ricardo Aleixo obtained the Advanced Studies Diploma (DEA) of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with the research work The Folk Guitar in Madrid in the Second Half of the Eighteenth Century. In 2015, he defended his doctoral dissertation The Guitar in Madrid (1750-ca.1808): Sources and Diffusion at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with which he obtained the Doctor of Musicology degree. As a researcher, he wrote several articles in national and international publications such as Il Fronimo, Clásica2, Soundboard Scholar, Soundboard and for the publication Musicología Global, Musicología Local (Spanish Musicological Society). His doctoral dissertation was awarded with the 2015 Spanish Musicology Award, granted by the Spanish Musicological Society, and was published at the end of 2016 under the title The Guitar in Madrid (1750-1808): With a Catalogue of the Music of that Period Preserved in the Madrid Libraries.
